Acting President Chuck called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Michael Torr.
Michael Nicholls gave and invocation
Lori led us in a verse of "Yankee Doodle."
Visiting Rotarians: None.
Guests of Rotarians: Doug DeVivo and Tanya Narath (speaker).
Correspondence: We received a "Thank You" letter from Monte Rio School for our continued support of their reading program. We received and invitation to attend the 125th anniversary of the Mt. Jackson Lodge at the Masonic Hall in Guerneville on Sunday 3/15 at 4:30 p.m. We received letters from the 3rd graders at Guerneville School thanking us for the dictionaries.
Announcements: Herman G. announced the 69th annual Stumptown Daze Parade on 5/16. This year's theme is the "Summer of Love".
Jeff invited everyone, particularly the newer members to attend the District Assembly at Mendocino College on 3/21. There are lots of interesting classes for new and veteran Rotarians.
Donna needs help in planning the Grant Presentation reception at Main Street Station on 4/23.
Little League Opening Day as well as the Youth Park BBQ need volunteers. A sign-up sheet was passed around.
Herman J. announced that the first of the Plaza Concert meetings will be held on 3/12. He also mentioned the Crab Feed for 2016 is already being booked. Over 160 have already asked to reserved tickets!
Happy Bucks: None.
Fines: Hans had the dubious honor of the only fine ($2) for sneezing while Acting President Chuck was speaking.
Raffle: Hans won the drawing but, drew a 5 of hearts from the deck.
Program:Doug DeVivo spoke to us briefly about drought resistant planter boxes for the lamp posts in Guerneville. Volunteers from the Empowerment Center, Senior Center, and Guerneville School are already looking forward to contributing art for the new planter boxes.
Tanya Narath spoke to us from the Leadership Institute for Ecology and Economy. She showed us an 8 minute video of people who had been through the program and gave testimonials about public policy training and ecology training. The program is 10 months long, with 1 full day of instruction per month. Tanya then opened the floor to questions. Mike Torr asked if student participants could get community service credit? It seems so. Donna asked about cost. It's based on ability to pay and ranges from $1,000 to $2,500 per student for the 10 month program. Herman J. encouraged seeking more involvement from the Latino community. Hans asked how they get the word out? It's mostly their mailing list and word-of-mouth. So far approximately 450 "fellows" have gone through the program.
Thought for the Day: Daniela gave us a thought about the importance of time.
